Case study
Richmond HVAC companies and AI search: 10 scored, October 2026
We scored 10 Richmond, VA HVAC companies for AI search readiness. See who ranked highest, what their websites share and what to fix first.

On October 17, 2026, we ran a WebsiteGlue competitor scan for HVAC companies in Richmond, VA. The scan took the businesses Google returned for that search and audited the first 10 with working websites. For each one we scored the Google Business Profile, the homepage and a few inner pages, then rolled the results into an AI ready score out of 100.
In BrightLocal's 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey, 45% of US consumers said they used ChatGPT or another AI tool for local business recommendations, up from 6% the year before. That makes AI tools the third most used source for those recommendations, behind Google and Facebook. When a homeowner in Henrico asks one of those tools who to call about a dead heat pump, the signals below are part of what the tool has to work with.
How we ran this, and its limits
Read these numbers as a snapshot of one search.
- We ran one search, "HVAC in Richmond, VA," on one day. A search from Midlothian or Mechanicsville would return a different set of companies.
- The scan covered 10 businesses. Plenty of good Richmond HVAC companies did not come up in this pull, and a missing name says nothing about a company's work.
- The AI ready score is our estimate. Google, OpenAI and Perplexity do not publish how they pick which businesses to name. Our score adds up signals those companies have documented or that local search depends on. The Google profile score supplies 40 of the 100 points. The website supplies the other 60, for answering customer questions, stating facts an AI tool can check, letting AI crawlers in, and keeping pages clear and current.
- Ratings, review counts and review dates are what Google showed on scan day.
- This scan did not run our live AI question, so this post does not report which companies an AI tool named.
The five highest AI ready scores
- Taylor Heating & Air: 84. Google profile score 94, with 4.8 stars from 535 reviews. Its homepage runs 1,737 words and names the counties it serves, including Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico. The site describes the company as a Class A contractor. taylorheatingandairva.com
- Americool Heating & Cooling: 83. Google profile score 94, with 4.8 stars from 370 reviews and a newest review dated September 5. Its footer prints its Virginia license numbers, which none of the other homepages we read did. americoolva.com
- Climate Solutions: 81. 4.9 stars from 489 reviews. The homepage has 1,365 words and names 11 places it serves, including Short Pump, Glen Allen and Western Mechanicsville. Our scan scored its phone layout 50 out of 100, and it still placed third. climatesolutionsrva.com
- Richmond Air: 79. 4.9 stars from 109 reviews, the fewest of the 10. It earned the highest SEO effort score in the scan, 96, and the homepage lists 14 neighborhoods and towns it covers. richmondair.us
- One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning: 77. Google profile score 94, with 4.8 stars from 1,540 reviews. fivestarrichmond.com
The other five companies scored between 63 and 74.
Websites separated the top five
The Google profiles in this scan sat close together. Six of the 10 companies had a Google profile score of 94, and every rating fell between 4.6 and 4.9 stars. At that level the profile adds between 34 and 38 points for nine of the 10 companies, so it can't explain the gaps between them.
Website points ranged from 33 to 46 out of 60, and the five companies with the most website points are the same five at the top of the list.
Review count did not track the score. James River Air Conditioning has 6,028 Google reviews, the most in the scan, and scored 74. Richmond Air has 109 and scored 79. Reviews still matter for ranking in Google's map results, and Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help a business's local ranking. Past a strong profile, though, more reviews added little to the AI ready score.
What we saw on the homepages
We read five of these homepages to check the scan against the pages themselves: Taylor, Americool, Climate Solutions, Richmond Air and James River.
- None of the five had an FAQ section on the homepage. Americool links to a separate FAQ page.
- The headings written as questions were calls to action or sales lines, such as "Ready to Get Started?" and "HVAC Emergency?" A heading like "How long does a heat pump installation take?" with a two-sentence answer under it gives an AI tool a passage it can use.
- Two of the five give conflicting figures for how long the company has been in business.
- One homepage showed a different phone number than its Google listing. Call tracking numbers often cause this.
What Richmond HVAC sites can do next
- Answer the questions your office hears. Write them as headings, with a short, direct answer under each: which counties you cover, whether you take emergency calls on weekends, what a maintenance plan includes, which brands you install. Aim for six or more. Google says AI Overviews need no special schema, and Google stopped showing FAQ rich results for most sites in 2023. We still give FAQ schema points because it labels each question and answer for any tool that reads the page.
- Print your license number. Virginia's Board for Contractors licenses HVAC work under the HVA specialty, and anyone can check a number in DPOR's License Lookup. A license number is a fact a customer or an AI tool can verify. "Licensed and insured" with no number gives them nothing to check.
- Use one set of facts everywhere. Pick one founding year, one main phone number and one address, and match them to your Google Business Profile. Put the address and phone in LocalBusiness structured data. Google's guidance for its AI features asks that structured data match the visible text on the page.
- Check your robots.txt file. OpenAI says sites that block OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers. Perplexity asks sites to allow PerplexityBot to appear in its search results, and Anthropic says blocking Claude-SearchBot may reduce a site's visibility in Claude's search results.
- Keep reviews coming in. Eight of the 10 companies had a Google review from the 90 days before the scan, and the newest reviews were dated between June 18 and September 8, 2026. BrightLocal found that 74% of consumers look for reviews from the last three months.

Common questions
Which Richmond HVAC company scored highest for AI search readiness?
In our October 17, 2026 scan of 10 companies, Taylor Heating & Air scored 84 out of 100. Americool Heating & Cooling scored 83 and Climate Solutions scored 81.
Do more Google reviews raise an AI ready score?
Reviews count through the Google profile score, which is worth 40 of the 100 points. In this scan, review count did not track the AI ready score. The company with 6,028 reviews scored 74, and one with 109 reviews scored 79.
Is the AI ready score how ChatGPT ranks businesses?
No. It is WebsiteGlue's estimate. AI companies do not publish their ranking rules, so the score measures signals they have documented, such as crawler access, plus Google profile strength and pages that answer customer questions.
Why isn't my HVAC company on this list?
The scan covered one Google search on one day and audited the first 10 businesses with working websites. Run the free AI ranking check to score your own site against the companies Google shows near you.
