Richmond, VA plumbers ranked by AI ready score
Local knows best, but can your customers find you?

The plumber with the highest AI ready score in our Richmond scan had fewer Google reviews than any of the other nine. RVA Plumbing & Drain has 110 reviews. Robinson's Plumbing Service has 1,239. RVA scored 94 out of 100, and Robinson's scored 83.

We ran the scan on October 17, 2026, with WebsiteGlue's competitor tool. It took the plumbers Google returned for a Richmond, VA search and audited the first 10 with working websites. Each one got a Google profile score, a website audit and an AI ready score, our estimate of how ready a business is to be named when someone asks an AI tool for a plumber.

BrightLocal's 2026 research found that 31% of US consumers used ChatGPT for business recommendations in the past year. Among people who use AI tools this way, 63% said they trust the recommendations.

What this scan can and can't tell you

  • It covers one search on one day. Google's results for "plumber in Richmond, VA" included companies in Midlothian, Henrico and Aylett. A search from Chester or Short Pump would return a different list.
  • It covers 10 plumbers. Many solid Richmond plumbers didn't show up in this pull. Leaving a company off this list says nothing about its work.
  • The AI ready score is ours. No AI company publishes how it picks businesses to name, so we score signals that Google, OpenAI, Perplexity and Anthropic have documented, plus the basics local search runs on. The Google profile score is worth 40 of the 100 points. The website is worth the other 60.
  • Ratings, review counts and review dates are what Google showed on scan day.
  • This scan did not include our live AI question, so this post doesn't report which plumbers an AI tool named.

The five highest AI ready scores

  1. RVA Plumbing & Drain: 94. 4.8 stars from 110 reviews. Its website earned all 60 website points we measure. The homepage has an FAQ section with five questions, including "Do you offer emergency plumbing services?" and "Are your plumbers licensed and insured?" It also lists the areas it serves by name, such as Highland Springs, Sandston, Bon Air and Mechanicsville. rvaplumbinganddrain.com
  2. Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Richmond: 93. 4.9 stars from 669 reviews. At 3,340 words, its homepage is the longest in the scan. It has a "Frequently Asked Questions" section, with questions such as "Can you help with emergency plumbing repairs in Richmond?" Its robots.txt file names eight AI crawlers, including GPTBot and PerplexityBot, and allows each one. mrrooter.com/richmond
  3. Robinson's Plumbing Service: 83. Google profile score 94, with 4.7 stars from 1,239 reviews, the most in the scan. robinsonsplumbingservice.com
  4. PlumbLife Plumbing: 80. Google profile score 94, with 4.8 stars from 722 reviews. It placed fourth with the shortest homepage in the scan, 372 words. rvaplumblife.com
  5. Any Time Emergency Plumbing: 78. 4.7 stars from 238 reviews and a 1,970-word homepage. anytimeemergencyplumbing.com

The other five plumbers scored between 57 and 76. H2O PRO Plumbing had the only 5.0 rating in the scan, from 454 reviews, and placed sixth at 76.

The leaders won on their websites

Google profile scores in this scan ran from 73 to 94. Website points ran from 26 to 60, a wider spread. RVA Plumbing & Drain had a Google profile score of 86, below five other plumbers in the scan. It led anyway because its site earned every website point. Mr. Rooter earned 58. No other plumber earned more than 45.

Reviews still set the floor. Every plumber in the scan held a rating of 4.5 stars or better, which clears the bar that 31% of consumers set before they will use a business. BrightLocal also found that 97% of AI users sometimes double-check an AI pick against real reviews.

What we saw on the top three homepages

We read the homepages of RVA Plumbing & Drain, Mr. Rooter and Robinson's to check the scan against the pages.

  • The top two both answer customer questions on the homepage in an FAQ section. Robinson's homepage has no FAQ section.
  • The top two name the towns and neighborhoods they serve. Robinson's says "the Richmond area."
  • All three give two different figures for how long the company has been in business.
  • None of the three prints a Virginia license number. Two of them say their plumbers are licensed.
  • RVA's own page lists its street address under two different city names, Henrico in the header and Richmond in the footer.

What Richmond plumbing sites can do next

  1. Answer emergency questions first. People search for plumbers when water is on the floor. Write headings for the questions they ask: whether you answer nights and weekends, how fast you can get to Henrico or Chesterfield, whether you charge a trip fee, which water heaters you install. Give a short, plain answer under each. Six or more questions earns full credit in our score.
  2. Name your service area. List the counties, towns and neighborhoods you cover in the page text. "The Richmond area" gives an AI tool nothing to match against a question about Mechanicsville.
  3. Print your license number. Virginia's Board for Contractors licenses plumbing work under the PLB specialty, and anyone can check a number in DPOR's License Lookup. A number is a fact someone can verify.
  4. Use one set of facts. Settle on one founding year, one main phone number and one city name for your address, and match all three to your Google Business Profile. Add them to LocalBusiness structured data, and keep that data in line with what the page shows, as Google's guidance on AI features asks.
  5. Let AI crawlers read your site. OpenAI says sites that block OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers. Perplexity asks sites to allow PerplexityBot to appear in its search results. Anthropic says blocking Claude-SearchBot may reduce a site's visibility in Claude's results. Open yourdomain.com/robots.txt and look for those names.
  6. Keep reviews fresh. Six of the 10 plumbers had a Google review from the 90 days before the scan. The newest reviews were dated between February 17 and September 8, 2026. BrightLocal found 74% of consumers look for reviews from the last three months, and Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking.

A note on FAQ schema: Google says its AI features need no special schema, and it limited FAQ rich results in 2023. We still give FAQ schema a few points because it labels each question and answer for any tool that reads the page. Write the questions and answers before you worry about the markup.
